Centrally situated in the heart of the town, Gamli skólinn offers an ideal location in close proximity to restaurants, cafes, the botanical garden, the church, Húsavík museum, The Whale Museum, and the harbor. Húsavík is renowned for its captivating whale watching experiences, and Arnar and his family are deeply involved in this maritime adventure. They also manage a whale-watching company named Friends of Moby Dick, extending a special 10% discount off their standard rates exclusively for guests of Gamli skólinn. Gamli Skólinn beckons you with three exquisitely adorned apartments, each offering a unique and comfortable retreat. The first and second-floor apartments boast three bedrooms, accommodating up to 6 guests, while the loft features 2 bedrooms, providing a cozy haven for up to 4 guests. The waters around Húsavik are home to several species of cetaceans, including the more common Humpback and Minke whales as well as rarer visitors such as Blue, Fin and Killer whales. White-beaked dolphins and Harbour porpoises can also be seen on our trips. These magnificent creatures are truly a sight to behold and our team of whale watching experts will help you get up close and personal with them.

In addition to whale watching, our tours offer breathtaking views of the beautiful Icelandic coastline and the chance to see other marine life such as seals, and sea birds. Our boat is designed to provide a comfortable and stable platform for viewing wildlife, and our knowledgeable guides will provide you with a wealth of information about the whales,their habitats and other marine life.

This is our whale watching tour. We will head West towards Kinnarfjöll, the highest point is syðri háganga *(1284m). On that way we are passing through the best whale watching area in Skjalfandi bay, we can expect to see Humpbacks and Minkes and sometimes other species like Blue or Fin whales, we will spend the rest of our tour with the whales and then return to Husavik.

We never promise a whale sighting, no one can. These are wild animals in their natural habitat and we have no control over them. However, the chances of finding whales in the nutrient rich waters of Skjalfandi are very high.

At Friends of Moby Dick, we appreciate the inherent unpredictability of natural wildlife encounters. Although our expeditions have had over 98% success with whales and dolphins, their appearance cannot be assured. In case of no sighting tours, we do not offer a refund. Nevertheless, we extend an offer to our guests to partake in an alternative departure, pending space availability. We are dedicated to ensuring a memorable experience for all our patrons, regardless of the whims of nature.
