    • camera or phone - you will want to capture these views!

    • warm clothes - we offer overalls free of charge but it’s good to have layers, hats, gloves, and good shoes. It’s always colder out there than how you feel on land.

    • Closed toe shoes- for your safety and comfort.

    • Optional - Water bottle / snacks - we don’t have kitchen on board so you are welcome to take your food on board if you think you might need it.

    • Ski googles or sun glasses - the sun reflection in the sea can be very strong, we recommend to have good UV filter. Also Ski googles is something that can be useful across many outdoor activities in Iceland just due to wind:)

    • Optional - strap to hold your camera or phone - tho it is rather unlikely to get splashes from the sea that would make you soaking wet and a waterproof case may not be necessary, it is a good idea to secure your phone or a camera with a strap. The boat can get rocky and you may want to be quick to have your hands free and not drop your belongings, but our overalls have great pockets too.

    • Alcohol & Cigarettes - smoking is strictly forbidden on our tours, as we have very sensitive smoke detectors on board. This is also not an activity that goes well with alcohol, let’s keep you safe and sober for these 3 hours!

    • Single use plastics - let’s be even more mindful about the environment, the boat can get rocky and wind can make light things fly, there’s already way too much plastic in the oceans, please be mindful of your belongings and trash that may come from snacking. We have very good recycling system on board and on land.

    • Drones - Are prohibited on our tours. In accordance with regulation no. 990 / 2017 on the operation of unmanned aircrafts (UAV), flight safety and the safety and rights of citizens and the protection of wildlife, we cannot allow drones to be flown from and around our vessels while at sea.

    • Big bags- are best to be kept in our office due to limited space on board.

    • Pushchairs & baby strollers - due to limited space on board they must be kept in our office.

  • We had 97-99% sighting success in the last years, the chances to see whales in our area are likely the highest in the entire country, however this is of course wildlife and we can’t make any guarantees.

If you would be in this tiny % of the incredibly unlucky passengers, we will offer you to join another tour FREE of charge, as many times as necessary until you see the whale!

  • Our most common visitors are Humpback whales, Minke whales, white-beaked dolphins but we are also seeing Blue whales, Orcas (Killer whales), Sperm whales, Northern Bottlenose Whales, Pilot whales, Sei Whales and Fin whales. Learn more HERE.

Whales can be seen ALL YEAR ROUND, whales are migratory species but they don’t migrate every year therefore we are in a very privileged geographical location to be able to see them all year round.

In different months, some species might be more present than others. There’s simply no bad time to go whale watching in Iceland!

  • Blue whales, the largest animals on earth typically have a window of time when they are staying present in the area and eventually leave. It has been changing in the last years when exactly it happens, but if your dream is to see them, we recommend following our social media - if you see that we are seeing them, this is the best time for you to join the tour.

  • There is no better or worse time, but each month can be different.

We are sailing daily tours between April & October and in recent years, among all these months we were able to see Humpback whales.

Spring (April, May) & late summer (August, September) tends to be the time to see more rare visitors such Orcas, Pilot whales & Northern Bottlenose whales, which might have to do with their migration patterns & food distribution.

Most of our sightings of Blue whales have been taking place in June & July - though that doesn’t guarantee anything, we also seen them occasionally in other months.

In general, it is difficult to advice on this as it all depends on personal priorities, we can just confidently say that there in no bad time to see the whales in Iceland!

  • There is no better or worse time of the day to the whales - the chances are the same at any given moment!

There are a few differences that you may want to consider

    • 9:00 MORNING TOURS, are the first to find animals, typically these tours have often the calmest sea conditions as the wind can pick up throughout the day but that is not a rule, when it comes to the weather it’s always best to check it closer to your arrival, it may be the opposite during your timeline!

    • 13:00 DEPARTURE is typically fantastic, usually we already know by this time where to find animals so you might have the benefit of spending a little more time with them, however at this time of the day the wind might pick up - we are sailing in the open bay so the conditions can be changing quickly.

    • 17:00 DEPARTURE - for some reason, these tours seem to be the least popular as a choice, with great sighting success it has more likely to do with travelling agendas, but there’s a good chance you will be having a small group of people with you on board. Late summer, a great highlight is also a beautiful light eventually turning into sunsets.

    • 20:30 MIDNIGHT SUN TOURS - these departures only happen for a very short window of time and we highly recommend them as the light is just stunning and it’s a great addition to watching whales in our area.

It’s hard to advice what is best, we can simply say that there is no bad time to see the whales! it’s more about the experience you are looking for. If you’re hesitating or have any questions - how is the situation in the time that you’ll arrive, we’re just a phone call away!

  • Skjálfandi Bay is one of the most beautiful bays in Iceland but it is widely open and we are sailing in the open ocean. Though our boats are very well equipped and safe, we cannot control the weather and occasionally it happens that our passengers get seasick.

We cancel our tours, if the weather would not allow us to sail out.

  • 24h - tours cancelled a day in advance will be 100% refunded, no questions asked.

We recommend booking in advance as our seats get quickly sold out, so it’s better to secure your spot & in case your travel plans will change, you can simply contact us to cancel or reschedule your booking.

  • We do not offer refunds for non-sighting tours. This is of course wildlife and there is no way for us to control the animals.

In case you would be unlucky enough to join the tour that did not find a whale,we offer a COMPLIMENTARY TICKET and invite you to join another tour FREE OF CHARGE depending on availability.

  • Believe it or not - we have an impressive box of lost & found items! We store found items for at least 1 month, if you don’t come back for it, we will eventually donate those items to red cross as we have limited storage space. If you need us to keep it longer, that’s no problem as long as we know the item has it’s owner.
